Microsoft Intune Deployment Checklist most tenants never change.

Intune ships with defaults that are safe for Microsoft and inconvenient for you. This checklist covers what to enrol, what to enforce, and the handful of policies that quietly decide whether a lost laptop is an incident or a shrug.

Checklist · 28 points · PDF

  • You enrolled devices into Intune and have not revisited the policies since.
  • You are moving off a legacy MDM, or off nothing at all.
  • You are not sure what happens today if a device is lost.
  • You need conditional access but are wary of locking out the CEO.

What is inside

Everything it covers

  1. 01 Enrolment: Autopilot, corporate versus BYOD, and where the boundary should sit
  2. 02 Compliance policies that actually block access rather than just reporting a score
  3. 03 Conditional access baselines — and the break-glass account to configure before you turn any of it on
  4. 04 App protection for BYOD without managing the whole device
  5. 05 Windows Update rings, and why one ring is a bad idea
  6. 06 Encryption and recovery key escrow — the part people discover is missing at the worst time
  7. 07 Offboarding: what happens to company data when someone leaves

A note on defaults

Nearly every gap we find in an established Intune tenant is a setting somebody left at its default in year one and nobody revisited. None of it is exotic — which is exactly why it goes unnoticed.

Questions

Before you download

Is this for Intune we already run, or a new deployment?
Both. Roughly half of it is aimed at tenants that were set up years ago and drifted — those are usually where the gaps are.
Do we need Microsoft 365 E5?
No. Most of the checklist applies to Business Premium and E3. Where a control genuinely requires E5, it says so.
Can you run it with us?
Yes — that is a short engagement rather than a sales call. The checklist is yours either way.
