Today, I want to talk about some of the best tips for managing data within a DevOps environment. In a typical workflow, in order to work with something like production data off of a database that's running in production, to use it in a development environment, a lot of arrays have to take a snapshot of a LUN, clone the snapshot, pull a VM out of that, then turn that VM into something that's on the dev domain with a dev IP and dev characteristics. Unfortunately, that just takes a long time. A lot of people don't have the bandwidth from a team standpoint.
They might not have the bandwidth from a technical standpoint to pull that much data over on a regular basis, so what Tintri does is we can just refresh data disks underneath a SQL server. Let's say that the C drive has all this information about how to be a dev server, but D has the data we want from the production side, and L has the logs we want, so in Tintri's world, we can take just the D drive and just the L drive, leaving C alone, clone just those disks, attach them to the dev environment, and be done with it in one step. If you want to learn more about how SyncVM, which is what this feature is called, or Tintri, contact one of our experts today.
